Instructor led art classes have revealed some impressive talent among residents at Brightview Avondell. Most recently, a class led by Carole Doetsch of Harford Community College focused on the philosophies and techniques of oil painting. The class of fifteen ranged in experience level from beginner to advanced and resultant paintings were showcased at a Fine Art Exhibition and Gala held at the community. Paintings were grouped by subject including abstract paintings, landscapes, stills, and portraits.

Organized by the artists, the theme of the evening was “For the Love of Art.” A harpist set an elegant atmosphere for the show, and a wine and cheese reception topped off the evening. Residents, their families and many guests filled the community-turned-art gallery for the special affair.

Attendees expressed that they were quite impressed with the quality of work crafted by the resident artists. Several of the paintings were purchased that evening.  The resident painters were proud to be part of such a highly anticipated and well-attended show and quick to applaud the works of their fellow class mates.

“Art is a great way to express yourself and keep your mind sharp,” noted one painter. “Learning the fine details of the various mediums in our art classes is essential to getting the creativity in your mind onto the canvas in your hands. Having our works so well received has us all just beaming.”
